David Mikus RPh.
A graduate of St Louis College of Pharmacy in 1971 (B.S. Pharmacy), David has a varied background of 39 years in retail pharmacy. He has owned his own businesses since 1975 as an independent practioner. Besides a B.S. in Pharmacy, he is a Certified Nutrition Consultant, has a Diploma in Homeopathy and many years of attending certified courses in nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, hormone rebalancing, saliva testing, menopause counseling, disease state management, compounding and other alternative integrative therapies.
His professional memberships include, Illinois Pharamacists Association, The American Pharmaceutical Association, The National Community Pharmacists Association, The Academy of Integratice Medicine, Professional Compounding Centers of America, The Society of Natural Pharmacists, The American Association of Nutritional Consultants, Board Member of the Illinois Pharmacists Association and Adjunct Clinic Instructor of Pharmacy Practice at MEdwestern University, Schoool of Pharmacy (Chicago & Pheonix), Univesity of Iowa School of Pharmacy & St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
He has lectured to physicians, pharmacists and the general public on a variety of health care issues.
He opened The Medicine Shoppe Compounding Pharmacy and Wellness Store in 1983 to offer an integrative approach to health care that includes, custom and sterile compounding, pharmacuetical services, nutritional counseling, detoxification therapies, hormone counseling, saliva testing, massage therapy, homeopathic remedies and other complimentary approaches to health care.
David and his wife Cathy have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, hiking, camping and all sports activities.
Penny Moore, Pharmacy Techician, Reiki Master, CNC
Penny joined our staff more than 20 years ago. In that time she has achieved Certified Nutritional Consultant and advanced to Reiki Master. She is our Operations Manager and provides exemplary customer service focusing on nutrition and homeopathy. She is an experienced patient-provider advocate who has gained the trust and respect of our valued Medicine Shoppe clients. Penn has attended numerous clinical seminars on nutrion, homeopathy, herbal medicine and kinesiology across the country to enhance her knowledge base to aid our client base. Handling the day to day operations of the pharmacy and making sure the customers are satisfied and on the road to recovery is her everyday goal.
Penny and her husband Roger have two children and one grandchild. In her off time she enjoys doing Energy work and spending time with her family.
Stephen Reichert, Pharmacy Tech., Licensed Massage Therapist
Stephen was born, raised and helped out on a grain farm with cattle and hogs for friends. He graduated high school in Virginia, Illinois, tried a little of college, then went to work for Babock and Wilcox Construction Company as a time keeper. Since then he has worked on the Burlington Northern Railroad holding numerous titles including brakeman, switchman, switchforman and conductor before being hurt in a train derailment.
Next Steve joined the United States Marine Corps and worked as an Assistant Supply Sargeant, and was on the Centralia Fire Protection District as a Firefighter with Community First Aid, CPR and driver.
Then he moved back to Virginia, had 3 children and went to work at EMI Music (Capital Records) in Jacksonville. Steve attended school at Classic Touch Massage to be licensed in massage therapy. Now he works here with us, at The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy and Wellness Store as a Massage Therapist, Pharmacy Technician, jack of all trades (master of none).
James Burg Compounding CPht.
Jim has graduated from Divernon H.S. and then joined the U.S. Navy. He served in Desert Storm, acquired an Associate in Arts degree, toured the world and retired as a Chief Petty Officer with 22 years. Upon retirement and time off, he has attended the Midwest Technical Institute School for Pharmacy Technician Certification training. Midway through school, he had started working part time at the Medicine Shoppe as the Compounding Technician.
Jim had graduated with High Honors from Midwest Technical Institute and then passed the Certification exam to be a Certified Pharmacy Technician. He then proceeded to complete a week of Extemporanous compounding and Aseptic training in Houston, TX with the Professional Compounding Center of America company.
His compounding background experience deals with Sterile inhalants, injectables, eye drops. For nonsterile he has done many capsules, creams, ointments, gels, lotions, antioxidants, solutions, troches, suppositories, hormone replace therapy drugs, lollipops, flavorings, treats for humans and animals.
Jim is single and enjoys stamp/coin collecting, militaria, history, gardening, physical fitness and is currently attending night classes at LLCC. Jim a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Springfield Philetalic Society and Advisory Board member at Midwest Technical Institute
Twyla Bailey, Pharmacy Techician
Twyla is our Processing Technician and Pharmacy Inventory Specialist. A lifelong resident of Springfield, she graduated from Lanphier High in 2001. She joined our staff in 2006, her previous work experience experience includes 3+ years retail pharmacy experience and 3 years retail management experience.
Outside of The Medicine Shoppe, she enjoys outdoor activies with her family including hiking, longboarding and gardening as well as evolving her passion for photography.
